Education
Nevins offers free, on-site education classes to adults who are enrolled in any of its programs. This invaluable educational opportunity is made possible through a long-time partnership with the Central Piedmont Community College I-LEAD (Independence and Literacy Education for Adults with Disabilities) program. We also offer Music Therapy and Yoga as well as an accessible workout room.
Taught by CPCC certified instructors in classrooms on the Nevins campus, these classes provide specialized education and transition courses for adults diagnosed with an intellectual disability or a traumatic brain injury. The program’s goal is to help students learn skills for:
- Independent living
- Successful employment
- Active participation in the community
Eight different courses are offered to help students learn the following skills:
- Reading and writing
- Math and money management
- Consumer education
- Job seeking and job success skills
- Interpersonal relationships
- Community awareness
- Government
- Computers
